sandmann
Dance piece after Der Sandmann by E.T.A. Hoffmann
Stage- an Costumeconcept
In E.T.A. Hoffmann's 'The Sandman,' part of the night plays cycle, delves into the protagonist Nathanael's unique perception of his surroundings. This perception is profoundly shaped by a traumatic childhood experience, leading him to continually immerse himself in the recesses of his own realm of thoughts, even in adulthood.
The stage design is founded on two fundamental principles: a multi-tiered arrangement of playing spaces at varying heights to represent different layers of reality, coupled with the creation of captivating color spaces using light. In addition, we've constructed an intricate scaffolding system. Central to this design is a large, curved spyglass mirror. This mirror embodies the complex interplay of trauma and narcissism, with its reflective shine, offering a glimpse into the upper stage level.
