hekatombe III
stage design and costume consultance
The stage of Hekatombe III unfolds as a symbolic representation of human interconnectedness with the Earth. The concept revolves around the idea of islands, each mirroring continents, communities, and diverse cultures.
Two carefully chosen types of sand sprawl across the stage, embodying the dualities inherent in the human experience. At the core of the stage, two screens stand as conduits to ritual moments, featuring a video installation that serves as the heartbeat of the performance. These screens act as portals, providing a voice to two spiritual leaders from the Aba Yalas community. The intentional asymmetry and imbalance in the stage design of screens and the meticulously arranged sands is emphasizingt the contrasting forces that shape our world.
From an anti-colonial perspective, Martha Hincapié Charrys performance weaves together cartographies, dances, and soundscapes, offering an embodied exploration of the interconnected fabric of Earth. This intentional connection seamlessly ties back to the island concept introduced in the first paragraph, reinforcing the symbolic nature of the entire stage design.
